A little bit a late bloomer in the makeup and scent scene, I received my very first bottle of genuine designer brand perfume for my 18th birthday.
It’s not that I did not appreciate the magnetism of a fresh floral scent before this, but my young frivolous mind just could not justify paying virtually $100 of hard-earned cash to smell like the newest celebrity.
My friends knew me (and my tight wallet) well. Dishing out for the best product around, they settled on a new Yves Saint Laurent fragrance from a local shopping mall. I never saw the price tag, but I can only presume it pulverised the bank balance.
I totally adored it.
Sweet, virginal and refined floral fragrances like I simply had never smelt before gave me the womanly magnetism that I’d been missing out on all these many years. I wore each and every day. The fragrance became integral to my daily outfit, and I would get comments wherever I went.
As the adage goes, all good things come to a close. As my perfume supplies were decreasing, I thought that it was time to make the investment myself and go out and buy another bottle. This perfume, in fact , had become part of the new woman in me.
I visited five stores. Nothing. Each and every store had run straight out of stock, and said they simply weren’t certain to get it back in. My new fave fragrance had been abandoned! I was shell-shocked. I just couldn’t bear the very idea of trudging around through stores looking to find a new signature fragrance.
So I turned to the Net.
I had heard about web shopping from my mates and had been told about the extraordinary range and low costs that you could find. Not forgetting this was before Internet shopping had reached its current level of recognition, finding my now discontinued Ralph Lauren perfume online seemed a prospect too good to be true.
Feeling a bit down hearted, I jumped on my laptop PC and started skimming. Two sites popped up promising discount designer brand perfumes, so I clicked on one of the Australian sites and performed a quick search for my now-extinct signature smell.
I held my breath.
There it was! In all its former glory, my Calvin Klein scent popped up on the page, was in stock and was significantly discounted. Without hesitation I put a couple of bottles in my virtual checkout cart and headed directly to the checkout.
Within the space of a week I had both my confidence and signature scent back, and so my obsession with web shopping had commenced!
With such a massive selection of brands, fragrances and cosmetics at ridiculously low prices all ready to be sent right to your door, I should never retail shop for perfume again – and if you’re a bargain hunter like I am , neither will you!
