Even though weddings are different in each culture, the idea is still the same of two people in love sharing a special moment together. In every culture the wedding dresses tend to be different especially when you go to different religions. I was amazed of how different attire is for each culture. There are many more intricate dresses than just the plain white wedding dress. Here are some examples of wedding customs from around the world.
For example Native American wedding dresses are much more colorful than the traditional wedding dress. A Pueblo bride would wear a cotton garment tied above the right shoulder secured with a belt around the waist. A Hopi bride traditionally would have her garments woven by the groom and any men in the village who wished to participate. Native American brides stay away from the normal attire and use more comfortable fabrics. Which make their dresses more desirable to wear?
Meanwhile the tribes in Northern California will have a traditional bridal dress woven in colors: white for the East, blue for the South, yellow (orange) for the West; and black for the North. These colors would make wonderful dresses for the eye to see. Turquoise and silver jewelry were worn by both the bride and the groom in addition to a silver Concho belt. Jewelry was considered a shield against evils including hunger, poverty and bad luck. Like many wedding traditions, the Native Americans were very superstitious.
Weddings from the Far East are different in many Asian cultures, who wear the traditional color red for their weddings for luck. In China, more and more brides are going for the more modern westernized wedding ceremonies and wedding dresses as opposed to the traditional. However, in India most brides keep with their traditions by wearing their red wedding saris. Click here to see wedding rings from different cultures.
